Our Approach

Forward Community Care is grounded in the belief that every person has the capacity to grow and self-actualise when their fundamental needs are met. Our practice draws on Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and the therapeutic community model, creating an environment where residents feel safe, respected, and involved in their own recovery.

In a therapeutic community, people live together in a supportive, democratic setting where roles, expectations, and boundaries are clear. Decision-making is shared, reducing unnecessary hierarchy and encouraging responsibility, empowerment, and independence.

Why Maslow’s Model Matters

Maslow’s theory reminds us that people thrive when their basic, emotional, and psychological needs are supported. When unmet needs create instability, individuals may struggle to progress in other areas of life.
At Forward Community Care, we prioritise safety, belonging, esteem, and personal growth to help each resident move toward independence and fulfilment.
